Primary Considerations

Before You Buy Air Conditioner

Cooling capacity is determined by tonnage or BTU (British thermal Unit). It is the amount of heat an air conditioner can remove from the house in an hour. Higher the BTU / Tonnage more the cooling power. The following table gives an estimate of the required BTU capacity with reference to room size.

Room Size BTU Tons
100 - 300 sq. ft. 2,000 - 6,000 0.17 - 0.5
300 - 500 sq. ft. 6,000 - 10,000 0.5 - 0.84
500 - 800 sq. ft. 10,000 - 16,000 0.84 - 1.34

For an even more accurate estimation, factors such as ceiling height, sunlight exposure, number of occupants and sources of heat should also be considered.

Inverter Air Conditioners control the speed of the compressor instead of turning it on and off to meet the temperature demands. The major advantages of Inverter ACs are less running costs, they are energy efficient, they're less noisy and they last longer compared to conventional ACs.

Inverter Air Conditioners

An Energy Efficiency Ratio is a number which represents the amount of energy an air conditioner consumes to produce a certain amount of cooling. Higher the EER number, more energy efficient the air conditioner will be.

Air Conditioner Types

Split / Wall Mounted

Split air conditioners are comprised of 2 units, an indoor unit and an outdoor that are connected through pipes and wires which work together and cool the room.

Benefits

  1. Easy installation
  2. Relatively quicker cooling
  3. Quieter
  4. Can be used for larger rooms

Free Standing

Free standing air conditioners are also referred to as portable air conditioners. These mobile units don’t require permanent installation and can be placed anywhere where there is a cooling requirement, however, they come with an exhaust outlet in the form of a duct or pipe through which warm air is vented outside.

Benefits

  1. Minimal installation required
  2. Mobile

Cassette/Ceiling Mounted

Ceiling mounted air conditioners are similar to Split type air conditioners, the only difference, apart from the shape is that they are mounted on the ceiling instead of the wall. They are usually used in commercial settings because of their aesthetically appealing and unobtrusive design.

Benefits

  1. Non protruding design
  2. Availability of different sizes and capacity

AC Features & Options

Reversed Cycle Air Conditioners reverse the cooling cycle allowing them to act as heaters as well, providing both, warm and cool air upon requirement.

Timers let you turn the A.C on and off at user specified times which allows you to cut costs and conveniently control the A.Cs cooling timings.
